Text Box: MIDHURST CAMERA CLUB UPDATE OCTOBER 2012
With the impending closure of The Grange Centre for redevelopment, the club’s committee had been considering a new venue for some time. During the summer we discovered the newly refurbished Cowdray Hall in Easebourne and consequently made the decision to make the move from The Grange. We have now had three meetings at Cowdray Hall and are very happy with our new “home”.

On 19th September we welcomed back Ken Scott as the first speaker of our 2012/13 Season. Ken, accompanied by an old friend, completed a 500 mile trek on the Pyrenees High Route from the Atlantic to Mediterranean coasts. Ken illustrated his talk with many photographs taken en route, not all of which had been taken in perfect light, but these illustrated that even poor light can produce some wonderful results.

The first competition of the season, the Ladies & Gentlemen’s Trophies, was judged by Mike Warren ARPS from Steyning Camera Club. The Ladies Trophy was won by Hilly Hoar with her image ‘Sunrise 2012’, and the Gentlemen’s Trophy by Clive Blott with his image ‘BBQ’.

Also new for this season is the introduction of two classes – ‘Premier’ for professional photographers and those scoring highly during the 2011/12 season, and ‘Club’ for all other members, hoping that this would encourage members who had not previously entered the Print League to enter. This strategy obviously worked, as the winner of the Ladies Club class was Marjory Wilson with her first ever entry ‘Taking the Garbage Out’. David Denman won the Gents Club class with ‘Red Coats’, Jane Castley the Ladies Enprints with ‘Go on, bite me!’ and Mike Berry the Gents Enprints with ‘Tied with String’.

On Wednesday 31st October we will welcome back Heather Hook with another presentation on her wonderful aerial photography. Heather has been taking aerial photographs all over the world for over 40 years and her work appears in many guide books, including “Over London”.
